It’s easy and Buyer registration is free. Just sign up, type in and verify your email address, and create your profile. Follow the instructions to create your user and company profile.

All Buyer companies are vetted for accuracy to ensure that they are representing legitimate organizations. You will be notified by our team once your company has been officially granted Buyer status.

You can also start your registration when receiving a screening invitation. You will be prompted to create a username and password and this will enable you to access your screeners immediately.

No, registration on the platform is free for Buyers.

RightsTrade does not charge any commission on deals made on the platform, so feel free to negotiate and complete your transactions offline. You may also use our Deal Wizard tool, which is integrated with DocuSign, to define licensing terms, digitally sign and download final agreements online.

How do I search for content?

There are a number of ways that you can find content on RightsTrade:

  • Avails Search: once your company is granted Buyer status, navigate to the Avails Search page under Browse to find titles whose rights are available for acquisition in your vetted territories. Just select the filters to specify the acquisition regions, rights groups, genres, project types, and other conditions for titles you would like to acquire, and click on “Check Availability” to see the results. Then, select titles of interest and click on “Make Inquiry” to send a message to the Sellers.

Please note that not all Sellers choose to list their available rights, so feel free to contact them through the “Contact Company” button on a specific title page to inquire about its availability in your territories.

  • Browse Companies: navigate to the Companies page under Browse, select the “Content Listed” box under “Seller Activities” in the left column, and click on your company of interest to view and filter the titles they listed on RightsTrade.
  • Browse Titles: navigate to the Titles page under Browse, and use the filters in the left column to refine your search criteria.

Want to track titles of interest? Just click on the “Add to Tracking List” button located next to each title. You’ll also find this button on each title page. You will be able to access and keep notes on each of these titles in your Tracking List

  • Search Engine: type in a relevant keyword in the search bar located at the top of the RightsTrade site to find a specific title.

  • Buyer Concierge: This complimentary service allows you to save time on finding titles  that match your criteria. How do I contact Sellers on RightsTrade?
  • Contact Company: If you have any questions about a specific title you see on RightsTrade, just click on the “Contact Company” button located below the key art of the title page. You will be redirected to the corresponding Seller page listing company representatives with whom you can connect.

  • Screener Request: You can ask for access to a screener by clicking on the “Request Screener” button on any title page. Do not forget to personalize your message with more information about your company and acquisition profile.

  • Make An Inquiry: If you are using the Avails Search tool and would like to ask sellers about pricing and terms, click on your titles of interest and on “Make Inquiry.”
How do I request a screener?

Only vetted Buyers have the ability to request a screener on RightsTrade.

Once you have conducted a title search, simply click on the “Request Screener” button and write a short intro message that will be sent to the Seller along with your screener request. The Seller will then review your request before sending you a screener invitation.

Please note that screeners are requested individually, and access may be granted or denied by the Seller.

What should I do if I can’t access my screener?

Verify that you are the recipient of the screener authorization. Your RightsTrade credentials are private and intended for your use only. Sharing them would be in conflict with the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy of your registration. Your colleagues may register separate accounts and create their own credentials for participation on the platform.

Check that your screening invitation is still valid. Sellers can limit access to screeners by time, views, and devices as specified on your screener invitation. In case your screener access expires, you will be presented with an option to request an extension. If your screener expires, you can click on the “Request Extension” button to directly request more time on a screener.

Please note that for security purposes, we use a DRM that prevents screen sharing or video downloading by making the screen black. If you encounter any screening performance issues we suggest the following steps:

  • Log out and back in (sometimes if there’s a period of inactivity, you will be signed out of your session)
  • Clear your browser’s cache or open your browser in an incognito window and then go the screener page
  • Try a different browser – we typically recommend Chrome and Edge
  • Make sure nothing else is utilizing your bandwidth. If you have other internet applications that are doing a good amount of processing, it can sometimes slow down streaming video
  • Check your firewall settings and whitelist the RightsTrade screener page (or contact your IT department to do so if you’re trying to watch from your office)
  • If using a VPN, deactivate it while trying to watch the screener

If that doesn’t help resolve the issue, contact us by clicking on the “Report a problem” tab in your Screening Room or contact us.

Sellers FAQ’s
How do I find and connect with relevant Buyers on the platform?

Sellers can maximize sales opportunities from 5000+ Buyers across 125 countries who span all key distribution territories and channels. This includes companies that buy for television, streaming platforms, airlines, international, studios, theatrical and all rights.

Listing your avails for each title is the easiest way for vetted Buyers to find your content as most of them actively search for titles according to rights availability by territory. After Buyers find your content through an Avails Search or via your title page, they can contact you directly to request a screener or make an inquiry. Any authorized member of your company has the ability to approve or deny a screener request.

To find Buyers that are most relevant for your content, you can use the Browse tool for Companies that allows you to filter by rights and acquisition region. Once you’ve narrowed down your audience to relevant Buyers, you can send them targeted screeners along with your title availability reports. Simply add search parameters such as rights group, territory, and date to searches in order to immediately pull avails for those criteria.

How do I promote my titles?

RightsTrade homepage features two carousels of titles that are refreshed frequently, offering optimal visibility to your titles.

We also send bi-monthly data-driven marketing campaigns to connect Buyers and Sellers with similar interests. Analytics powered recommendation campaigns drive activity on Seller titles.

The Buyer Concierge program will also recommend your titles to relevant Buyers who expressed interest in genres that match your content.

How does RightsTrade ensure the security of my screeners?

To achieve the highest level of security possible, our backend captures detailed information of each screener view. This information includes a unique user ID number, email address, device used, IP address and geo-targeting, allowing us to identify and trace every screening that occurs.

Every RightsTrade screener is also secured by the following mechanisms:

  • A screener requires that an authorization be granted to the viewing user by any Seller at the rights-holding company

  • The screener authorization is tied to the viewer’s email or account credentials (username/password)

  • The screener viewing period is limited to a specified date-range and access can be limited down to the minute

  • The screener authorization can optionally be limited to a certain number of views and “devices” (browser/computer combination).

Our advanced security features also include watermarking of the viewer’s email address across the screener, the size and placement of which can be preset by the Seller.

Our screening room is powered by Amazon S3, the leading web-services interface developed by Amazon Web Services to store and retrieve any data from the web. Amazon S3 is compliant with the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) set of best practices for securely storing, processing, and delivering protected media and content.

Can I invite Buyers who are not already registered at RightsTrade to watch my screeners?

Of course! You can invite any of your contacts to screen and they will be taken directly to your screener. They will be able to watch the screener by simply providing a username and password.

How do I track screener activity?

RightsTrade offers extensive analytics and a responsive dashboard where you can see who has viewed your screeners. You can find this information under My Screeners >> Views Tracking and Analytics. From there, you can filter by title and date range to see your screener invites, plays, total view time, and average view time.

Your screener invitations are retained for you to search and explore. You will be able to filter searches by title, user, authorization and expiration dates. You can also edit invitations that have already been sent in order to revoke or extend the authorization.
