Julie, Mette and Naisha are best friends and classmates. They live in a small village in a valley in Norway. At school they are rehearsing for the Christmas play, and Naisha is elected to be Santa Lucia. Julie’s biggest fear is to speak in front of the class. In an effort to help her, her parents and the teacher have decided that a nice challenge for Julie would be to lead the Christmas play this year… The three girls have snowball fights with the boys, race down steep hills on their sledge and look forward to Christmas. One day Naisha suddenly disappears and nobody knows where she and her mother are. It turns out they have run away from the local refugee centre and are hiding somewhere in Oslo. Their refugee application has been rejected, and they will be sent back home – if the police find them. Julie and Mette decide they need to find Naisha and her mother and help them. The problem is only that Julie’s dad is a policeman; that Julie and Mette are only nine years old, that Oslo is a long way from home, and that Christmas is approaching. With a secret address written in invisible ink as their only clue, Julie and Mette sneak off on the night train to the city. They need to find Naisha before the police do. Will they be able to get their best friend back? RAFIKI is a film about friendship and courage. How far are you willing to go – to save your best friend?...more
